Dec 15, 2011· I'm considering purchasing a VMC and in order to justify the acquisition it needs to be capable of grinding ceramics and light milling aluminum, some 316ss I can think of many reasons why this isn't a great idea but I'm sure someone has tried it before. Contributor R is correct about most ceramic wheels when it comes to grinding carbide. I have worked for many years developing different silicon carbide grinding wheels and ceramic blends for different applications. I have used silicon carbide wheels for roughing out carbide and they work very well but typically do not last very long.

Nov 28, 2019· The harder the steel you are grinding the softer the wheel should be. On my single lip tool grinder I mostly use CBN wheels to avoid the grit flying around from using AO. For carbide, diamond wheels, I think they are 320 equivalent.
